DuPont Manual High School’s award winning art and literary magazine ONE BLUE WALL is happy to announce our newest contest, “DO YOU SPEAK MY LANGUAGE?”
For “Do You Speak My Language?” we are looking for pieces that explore cultural heritage, and/or the experience of first, second, and third generation immigrants. All genres are welcome. We are specifically interested in work that revolves around the writers’ and/or artists’ relationship with the language(s) and culture their families did or did not pass down. Pieces relating to AAVE (African American Vernacular English) are also encouraged to be submitted.
This contest prioritizes students of color and children of immigrants, but everyone is welcome to submit so long as their pieces fit the theme.
We accept pieces of poetry, prose, art and/or photography by current high schoolers from all across Louisville. Pieces are due March 22nd.
Selected pieces will be published in a chapbook (a small magazine) that will be sold and distributed throughout Louisville, with prizes up to $300 for our first, second, and third place winners. Prize money may go up in the next month, so keep an eye on our website, for updates, how we select pieces, and more details!
To submit, please visit the submit tab on our website or send a copy of your writing or art to our email, firstname.lastname@example.org, with your name and the contest title in the subject line.
